I Danced With Mrs Gandhi
Sylvester Stein's Autobiography written at the age of 87. It's unconventional, zany and full of his spirited take on life, from his early childhood as the son of Lithuanian immigrants in Cape Town, to his days defying the South African regime while editor of Drum Magazine, and then to his setting up of a large publishing company in the UK. This was capped by his becoming a champion sprinter late in life.
It is a fascinating read from this life-loving and inventive comic spirit.
A taste of the critics
'A wonderful tour de force, insouciant, likely-boy stuff which can be read at a sitting ... wonderfully flamboyant ... a serious story to tell.'
Denis Herbstein
